Connection

The hula-hooping videos will be great for future blackmail projects. The pictures will be stowed away to show children in years to come..."this is how grandma looked playing on the Wii". Laughter and chatter and time with my family will be tucked into my memory and pulled out repeatedly over the years, in conversations that start with 'do you remember?'

A family gathering for a birthday. Hotdogs, hamburgers, and tater salad. Mom's fruit salad. Mother, father and children. Grandparents. For one short afternoon all the ages spanned and merged into a lump of story-telling, job updating, graduation planning, Wii playing fellowship.

We talked of the beach trip planned. We heard of job offers from the college grads to-be, who were so excited. There was catching up about Poppy's truck, which he custom painted, and ultrasound pictures to be shown around. Belly rubbing and baby names.

But way more than any of this, there was connection. Connection with the past, with the present and the future. Connection with the only thing in this world that is really important...connection with the ones we hold dear to our hearts.
